I have officially marked myself the worst social media user of all time. In real life, I don't find myself to be an awkward human being. I'm fully capable of real conversations with real human beings - sometimes I even tell real jokes, you know the funny kind!
I can talk on the phone and text - I'm the same person on facebook that I am in my everyday life (or so I like to think). I don't find myself having two different personalities: the world I live in and the world I live online.
Yet somehow, online I'm awkward. Just plain old, fifth-grade, frizzy hair and glasses kind of awkward. Things I think are funny at one moment aren't really funny at all - they never really were to begin with. I feel compelled to intereact and comment on your blogs and try to be an interactive human being, but then I submit a comment and think to myself, "I sound like a total flipping idiot". And 99% of the time, I really do.
I say weird words and put smiley faces where there shouldn't be any. I try to be "hip" or down with the now crowd, but I suck at it. I'm a loser online. Hopeless, awkward, flailing around in such a ridiculous manner if I acted like this in real life, I'd have no friends! I'd be an outcast, a vagabond. A lonely girl.
Why am I so weird on the internet? Why does something someone says elsewhere sound clever, but when I say it, it just sounds lame. A joke gone totally flat. And it's killing me. So even though I just said the other day I don't make resolutions to better myself (in real life), I'm making a social-media resolution to better my online self and stop being so damned awkward!
